Hello, everyone! This is the “sumikawa” Gift Team.
Now that we’ve entered November, the chill in the mornings and evenings has us feeling the approach of winter in earnest. Last week, we introduced our signature original liqueur, “Tomato no Megumi.”
This week marks the second installment of our [Gift Series]. Since it’s November, it might seem a bit early, but today we’d like to talk about “year-end gifts and thoughtful gestures for the coming season.”
- “It’s Still Too Early”? November Is Actually the Best Time to Take Your Time Choosing
You might be thinking, “It’s only the beginning of November—isn’t it too early to be thinking about year-end gifts?” Generally, in the San’in and Chugoku regions, it’s customary to arrange for year-end gifts to be delivered between early and mid-December. However, November is actually the best time to select items and seek advice.
Once December rolls around, everyone gets swamped with work, year-end cleaning, and office parties. If you rush into a decision thinking, “I have to choose quickly!”, you’ll inevitably end up mechanically picking standard items from a catalog.
For us, the “elegance” of a gift lies in “thinking of the recipient and reaffirming each other’s presence and relationship.”
“I wonder what kind of life that person has been leading this year?” “I remember they mentioned their family situation had changed,” “Perhaps a sake that pairs well with a warm hot pot would be nice”… It is precisely this time spent carefully selecting a gift while picturing the recipient’s face that represents the most luxurious and heartfelt gesture of all.
- Give a “Story,” Not Just a Standard Gift
When selecting year-end gifts at our store, in addition to practical standard sets like beer, condiments, and juice, our suggestions for combining “sake and local specialties with a story”—which you won’t find anywhere else—are also extremely popular.
Gifts Featuring the Bounty of Yoshiga Town: Limited-edition items packed with reliable local ingredients and craftsmanship, such as “Tomato no Megumi” and “Takatsugawa,” which we introduced last week.
Fine Sake to Brighten Your Winter Table: Carefully selected sake from exclusive retailers to warm you up during the chilly season.
Thoughtful Gifts to Make Daily Life More Comfortable: We also offer consultations on the maintenance and replacement of eyeglasses and hearing aids in preparation for year-end and New Year’s family gatherings.
If you’re thinking, “I want to send something delicious and thoughtful—not just a run-of-the-mill gift,” please feel free to consult with us in-store.
- A Thoughtful Response to “Mourning Notices” That Begin Arriving in November
From November through early December, you’ll likely receive an increasing number of “mourning notices” (notices declining New Year’s greetings) from acquaintances and relatives.
Many customers feel unsure about how to respond, wondering, “I didn’t know about the loss—what should I do?” or “I can’t send a New Year’s card, but I want to convey my condolences somehow.” In such cases, we recommend sending a “condolence card” by the end of the year, or gifts such as incense or memorial offerings. As gift-giving professionals, we’re here to provide full support in helping you express your condolences in a subtle, elegant way that doesn’t put the recipient on the spot.
- We’re More Than Happy to Help with Organizing Your Lists and Answering Inquiries
We’re more than happy to assist with requests such as, “I’d like to review the address list of people I send gifts to every year,” or “I’ve set a budget—please select appropriate gifts tailored to the recipient’s age group.” We’ll handle everything from ensuring the correct inscription on the noshi (gift wrapping) to arranging your specified shipping date.
Closing
Before the real cold sets in, why not start preparing little by little to express your “gratitude for this past year” to your loved ones? We’ve created a warm and inviting atmosphere in our store and look forward to assisting you with any inquiries.
We plan to share updates on our latest store renovations and behind-the-scenes glimpses as we prepare for the coming winter. Please stay tuned.
Until then, everyone, please take care not to catch a cold…
